A Guide to Different Art Forms
Art is an ever changing field of human endeavor involving creativity, visual skill, physical skill, or emotional strength to express beauty, technical expertise, aesthetic beauty, or other emotional concepts. There are many forms of art ranging from paintings and sculptures, to literature and film, to dance and music. Art can be defined as an enduring process of generating and participating in the creation of new cultural values based on the experience and understanding of the creator. There are many forms of art including but not limited to painting, sculpture, music, film, and architecture. There has been a huge expansion in the field of art over the past century and there are now many different sub-disciplines within art.
The most common definition of art is that it is “the application of an artistic style or form to a single or normally varied object”. This definition is most inclusive and includes all forms of art. The next most common definition is that art is “the process of creating or discovering the beauty of a thing”. This second definition is often considered by traditionalists as more definitive than the first one above because it includes artistic experiences as well as creations. However contemporary definitions are very different to these traditionalist definitions and they have been discussed below.
The contemporary definition of art is often seen to include artworks that are influenced by, take inspiration from, or are similar to famous works of art by others. It may also include works that are based on other works of art, but which take on a contemporary spin on those works. The goal of contemporary art is to show the beauty of the current culture and society through original works of art.
Another common definition of art is that it is “a distinctive form of art”. This type of art has become very popular in recent years and has influenced a large number of people. This kind of art is popular in many different mediums such as paintings, photographs, computer drawings, and other types of art. This definition excludes works of architects and other forms of designers as these forms of art do not have a unique form. Modern art also falls under this broad definition, but modern art is usually identified as being different from classic or traditional art in its form, medium, and/or topic.
In order to be considered art, a work of art has to meet the definition above. There are other considerations that are used to determine whether a work of art is art. Some of these considerations include the purpose or theme of the work, the audience the work is intended for, the level of quality of the work, and the culture of the viewer or the people who enjoy the art.
One of the most influential definitions of art was given by the Dutch artist Rembrandt. According to this theory, art is defined as “the unexpected transformation of a simple object into a complex or symbolic one”. In addition, this theory also includes the idea that art is an independent and personal experience. In general, art critics and museum curators use the Freidrich Frank formula to rate different art forms. The formula is as follows: a work of art is good if it amuses, excites, delights, relaxes, consoles, and delights the audience.
