Blogger is an American version of web publishing software Yodlee and is a free, internet-based content management system that allows multi-user blogs to have time-stamped content. Pyra Labs developed it prior to being purchased by Google in 2021. Google hosts the main blogs, which are accessible through a separate subdomain of blogspot. Recently, Google began allowing users of Blogger to submit web content via an RSS feed.
One of the advantages of blogging using Blogger is that it is free and there are no limitations on the content the blog author can publish. Blogs are generally available for download free of charge. Bloggers can also opt for monetizing their blogs through Google AdSense or affiliate programs. Blogs are submitted to different directories and blogsites depending on the type of topic. This submission process results in both back links and search engine optimization benefits.
In recent times, Blogger has also launched an application, Blogger Mobile, that allows its users to share and access information from their blogs on the go. Blogger Mobile is a browser add-on that enables readers to access their blogs directly from the browser. Blogger Mobile is supported on smartphones, PDAs, and computers with Windows Mobile installed. There are also versions of Blogger Mobile that are designed specifically for tablets such as the iPad android. Mobile blogging is a useful tool for bloggers who use their phones to access the Internet.
Because Blogger is based upon the WordPress open source content management platform, it is considered one of the easiest platforms to use for developing a website. The website designing process is completed with the click of a mouse. Blogger offers a free blog design service, which includes web hosting, domain registration and e-mail notification for new posts. The blog design service also enables bloggers to post advertisements on their blogs.
As blogging became more popular, Google recognized blogger and listed it as one of its partner programs. Google uses blogger for many of its major search engine services, including Google Places, Google Maps and Google Finance. Google began offering paid advertising on blogger last year as part of its partnership with Zagat. Blogger is one of the first blogging websites, to join the program.
Google launched its ad-blocking program called AdSense. The program is designed to block blog ads from appearing on webpages unless users opt-in to view those ads. Google started blocking ads from being displayed on blogs in August of 2021. Many bloggers responded to this move by switching to WordPress, which they say provides a better user experience because the feature allows users to control where ads appear on a blog. In the past, Google also blocked ads from being displayed on blog posts that were copied and pasted from one blog to another.
